PBIS

At Strafford High School positive behavior and school pride are a cultural focus. The Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports program aims to enhance both of these elements at SHS. So what is PBIS? By definition, PBIS fosters positive behaviors in schools through research-based practices; put more explicitly, “Positive behavior support is an application of a behaviorally-based systems approach to enhance the capacity of schools, families, and communities to design effective environments that improve the link between research-validated practices and the environments in which teaching and learning occurs” (PBIS.org). Through the combined efforts of faculty, parents, and vested community members, PBIS promotes practices that encourage positive behaviors in students. These processes take many forms at SHS and are directly linked to several elements of our Strong program. Clearly stated expectations and consequences coupled with recognition systems and intervention programs, SHS faculty members strive to promote student success; some of these components are detailed in the links that follow.
